Gender Studies Question

Learning Goal: I’m working on a gender studies project and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Options for Zine Topics:

A) Redefining Romance: Take a classic romance story, cliché, theme, or meme and manipulate it to disrupt and transform the normative ways that it represents gender, race, class, culture, or other vectors or power and identity.

B) Public Service Announcement (PSA): Take an issue in sex, love, and romance in which there is a great deal of panic, misinformation, misunderstanding, misrepresentation, and stereotyping, and write a zine/make a video that is informative as well as politically progressive in its representation of those who are especially impacted by the social issue under question. Think carefully about how best to include those “Others” so that they are not re-tokenized or stereotyped in your work.

Papers should be double-spaced, paginated, and must adhere to a formal academic citation style (i.e., Chicago Manual Style, MLA, or APA). Use a cover page that includes your name, date, paper title, and contact information. Papers are evaluated according to writing mechanics, content, argumentation and analysis, use of specific examples, style/format, and engagement with course themes (a Rubric will be posted). Please submit papers as PDF or MS Word Documents.

The paper should include the process of how you made the zine and explain why you had to choose that topic.
